A car for your plans.

From St. George to Great Kills or Tottenville, the pickup address and event schedule give a Staten Island rental inquiry its shape. Include the passenger count, luggage and the car you have in mind, along with whether the occasion calls for a chauffeur or an approved self-drive arrangement.

For a trip that continues into Brooklyn or New Jersey, share the complete route and proposed collection location. ZOOOMR can discuss vehicle availability and delivery logistics against those details. Crossing costs, mileage and a different return address should be clarified in the quote, not assumed from the vehicle listing.

Yes, you can rent a luxury car in Staten Island, but it is not a simple matter of walking in off the street with a cash down payment. To rent a luxury car, you will need to be old enough, have full coverage insurance with transferability, a security deposit, a two-day weekend minimum and then pay mileage, tax and the Verrazzano toll.

New York State law says all licensed drivers 18 or older can be rented to. Check for special policies, as well as under 25 surcharges, as they change from one company to the next, and some exotic car companies want you to be 24 before they let you drive one of their models.

Full Coverage Insurance

For a luxury rental, some firms require full coverage insurance (comprehensive, collision and liability) in your name. If you have liability only on your car, you will need to upgrade at least 24 hours prior to the rental pickup. Contact your insurer to be sure it has transferable coverage. State Farm, Geico, Progressive and Allstate are examples of larger companies that usually can extend their coverage, but small firms may not. Be ready to show your license and your insurance paperwork to verify coverage.

If you plan to rely on your credit card instead, its rental car coverage has a list of exclusions. Check with the card company to see if it covers the type of car you want to rent. Luxury cars are sometimes excluded.

Any car rental in New York State must have at least liability coverage included. In the state, that is $25,000 for one person injured, $50,000 for more than one, and $10,000 property damage coverage. Until June 30, 2028, New York rental car companies can charge the market rate for collision damage waivers for any car with an MSRP over $50,000.

As for the security deposit, it is usually $1,000 or more on cars worth between $75,000 and $500,000. If you pay with cash, the money will be returned promptly when you return the car undamaged. If you pay with a card, any hold will usually be released in three to five business days, but holidays and banking restrictions can cause delays. In New York, rental car companies cannot deny service based solely on your not having a credit card. Companies can run a screening that can take several days to complete, and even after you go through the checks they may require a cash deposit.

Your insurance might not cover minor issues such as door dings, wheel scuffs or a cracked windshield. A ding or scrape will be taken out of the deposit. After the damage is taken from your deposit, you might seek reimbursement from your insurer but it could raise your monthly premiums. As an example, the standard list for one exotic rental has a $300 charge for each scuffed wheel. Owners find that car renters with the bigger deposits take more care of the cars.

Under New York law, the amount of money you owe is capped at either the reasonable cost to repair the damage or the current market value of the car, whichever is lower. You cannot be charged for any loss-of-use or administrative fees. Liability for damage can only be in the contract if it is bold 10-point type that cannot be missed.

The Best Time to Rent a Luxury Car

For most people, midweek is the best time to rent a luxury car if you only have one day to get around the city or take a quick road trip. Why? Because luxury rental car companies usually have a two-day minimum to rent an exotic car on a weekend. This is because Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days. Expect major holiday weekends like July 4th to require a three-day minimum rental. Many firms will not let you self-drive a car for a few hours at all. The question is can you book a one-day weekend rental if the car is otherwise unrented? Talk with the staff to see. Sometimes if it’s still on the lot as you call, a luxury car rental agency might give you the car for one day.

Make a reservation with a down payment of 10%. The 10% holding deposit is non-refundable. Two weeks’ notice is needed for cancellation to not incur further charges. Bad weather and early returns will not get a refund since the car was reserved and not available to rent to another customer.

Exotic car miles differ by location. One example states the basic policy gives you 125 free miles per day on top of the rental price. Over the 125 miles, you pay a fee of $2.50 to $6.95 per mile, depending on the car. The allowance depends on how in-demand the vehicle is, season, and depreciation. Before renting an exotic car for a long drive, get in touch and find out the rules.

There are fees for bridges, tunnels, and Manhattan streets. Crossing the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is $12.03 by Tolls by Mail for a car without E-ZPass. Driving into Manhattan’s Congestion Relief Zone is $9 with E-ZPass at peak times: weekdays between 5 am to 9 pm and weekends 9 am to 9 pm.

Check with your insurance to see if it has the right kind of coverage before booking. If you want to rent for a single day, pick a weekday. Ask about security deposits, mileage and ding charges. Above all, treat the exotic car you rent the way you want someone else to treat your car.

Questions, answered plainly

Before you book.

Discuss your dates, preferred car and proposed arrangements with your concierge before confirming a booking.

Ask your concierge
Can I request car delivery to a Staten Island home or venue?

Yes, you can submit the address, dates and preferred car for review. Vehicle availability, access, timing and delivery terms must be confirmed for the individual request before a booking is agreed.

Can my itinerary continue from Staten Island into New Jersey?

Include the planned destinations and return address when you inquire. Ask the concierge to confirm permitted travel, mileage and collection terms for the proposed booking before setting the route.

Are delivery and crossing costs included in the advertised vehicle information?

Do not assume that a vehicle listing establishes the total cost of your trip. Request a quote for the actual pickup and return addresses, itinerary and dates, and confirm which delivery or crossing charges apply.
