Glasgow University in snow

Glasgow University in snow

The other night whilst walking back from dinner, I decided to take a bit of a detour in search of photo opportunities in what was a snowy Glasgow. A pretty rare thing to see Glasgow this wintery, so suffice to say I was out for a long time getting cold, and covered in snow whilst taking photos. Good fun of course! This shot is looking up the River Kelvin towards the University of Glasgow's Gilbert Scott Building.

Something a bit different from the norm, this is from the Apple Store opening in Glasgow in 2007. It's a good bit of fun going to one of these, not often you get a round of applause just for walking into a shop.

This morning a rather fierce winter storm passed through, stopping my commute into Aberdeen, and leaving me working at home. This was obviously taken during a break.

This was taken whilst in Oban early last year. Haven't quite identified what mountains it is that are shown here, but I think the small island Rubh'a Chruidh is in the middle, with the slightly larger (but still small) island of Kerrera going off to the left.

What grinds my gears

What grinds my gears

After my Canon 5D, my bike is my next favourite possession/obsession. It's a hybrid bike, the Scott Sportster P3 (2008 model), and this is a closeup of the gears, which I found semi-interesting! As the days are getting longer, and the weather occasionally warmer, I'm gradually getting back into a new season of cycling, and it's great. But those gears are never going to look that clean again!

One from the archives that caught my eye as I was clearing through my Lightroom library the other night. The moss and the snow on the branches makes for a fairly nice silhouette.

This is Toddy Pond in East Orland, Maine. My favourite place from my whole US trip. Awesome place, awesome people! And I never had a go on that pedalo, but I was in that lake for a morning swim each day of my stay. Bliss.

I featured the quirky, now I've got to feature the traditional, when it comes to the MIT campus in Boston. The Great Dome is pretty iconic of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, although mostly because of the various pranks held over the years on or around it!

The MIT Stata Center

On my last day in Boston, I crossed the river to have a quick wander round the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus, before leaving for Maine. MIT's Stata Center certainly stood out amongst all the other buildings, it's quirky, in all its various strange shapes and sizes. It did however remind me an awful lot of our very own Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. However Frank Gehry, who was the architect behind the Stata Center, had nothing to do with the Scottish Parliament as far as I know! Both buildings though seem to have had their fair share of problems in day to day use. There's a reason why most buildings don't look like this.

I liked the bright copper (I guess?) piping on the outside of this building, it looked very different and made the whole building stand out from others nearby.
