This looks about the same size as the old version of the 17-35 (which I love), have you tried shooting with the built in flash without the hood on the lens...do you get the shadow of the lens in the photo?

No problem...I was just curious because I was not aware and had the lens on my film camera, did a whole shoot for a band (in a small area) and found out after that the wide shots got the shadow from flash. Now with the digital, I can see it and adjust, so it's not as big a deal.

cmiper i can say that i friend of mine has the same "shadow" with a Canon 400d and this lens...
