An aerial view over Kota Kinabalu as the plane I was in took off from runway 20 at Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Our pilot made an immediate right turn, that enabled us passengers on the right to have this view of Kota Kinabalu. The centre of this photo is the city centre (CBD), and nearby it is Likas Bay, where 1 Borneo can be spotted in the distance. Tanjung Aru & Sutera Harbour is on the left. The airport is on the right.

Viewed from Lecture Hall 3 in Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Mount Kinabalu is just visible at the peak of Lawa Mandau. It was a clear evening so the jungle on Lawa Mandau can be seen clearly. Angle of elevation of Lawa Mandau is 4° 7' while Mount Kinabalu is at an angle of 4° 41'. That's why they seem so close to each other from this angle.
