Ronald was timing the ketchup waterfall.
Every 23 seconds there was a bit that became almost transparent. He could spot the contours of the hot fries he should avoid. In 5 seconds he'd be able to make a home run to the lettuce patch, or die trying.

Another thing I've just realized: Ronald is a tall, pale redhead.
This makes him the Conan O'Brien of corporate mascots :)
