A couple of years ago the SS Great Britain museum was awarded a National Lottery grant to help preserve this great ship which returned to her birth place in the 1970s. The money has been put to great use and in the picture above you can see the glass waterline built to protect the lower hull from the elements and to allow it to be preserved in an environment more suitable for its needs.

With the SS Great Britain Isambard Kingdom Brunel built the first modern day ocean liner. Every part of her design was revolutionary, including her propeller. A replica of which, fitted at the stern of the SS Great Britain is pictured here.

Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol. From memory Isambard Kingdom Brunel intended the supports of the bridge to mimic Egyptian architecture so much so that his original design included sphinx atop the supports at either end of the bridge. The bridge was not completed until after his death and due to cost constraints and a dare say differences in opinion the sphinx was cut from the design.
