I'm a little fed up with shots like this, usually they all look the same, but I really like this one.
I like that there are two colors of light, a whiter one and an orange one. The white one grabs our attention and leads down to hell, as slowdncr put it. Simply great!

thanks! it's daylight coming in from top through the center, and tungsten in the stairwell itself. as soon as I noticed that I knew I had capture it:-) Would have liked more DoF but already at ISO1600 and 1/20, leaning far over the banister...

Well, more depth of field would have been interesting, perhaps, but up close we already have all the detail we need. And then, with less, it makes the bottom look even further/more mysterious. Following this idea, perhaps LESS DOF would have been better!

Did you read my mind? I wanted more DoF, but because the slight blur in the bottom makes the dark pit appear even deeper, I decided this was good (enough).
Less DoF would require a more expensive lens (this is wide open), please don't tempt me:-)
