Vatican Museum Stairs B&W
Spiralling out of the Vatican museum. I've been playing a bit with B&W recently, and this one seemed a good candidate. Which do you prefer: this one or the color version? View Big (?)

I don't know what the previous one looked like. But this one is nice.

Thanks! For comparison, I've added a portal to the color version now.

That's a tough call... they both have strong points.

I like them both! I lean a tiny bit in the colour version direction, just because I like the bit of gold at the bottom. Otherwise, each is a fave for me!

Same for me. The color version has a little more detail in the shadows.

I like the b&w version. I think it's less muted than the color version, and more vintage. Of course, the darn pulsing of the portal makes it tough to tell for sure. I like the darker pulse of the color.

Wow, thanks all! Overwhelming reaction! Personally, I am leaning B&W, by the way.

Thanks! Coming from the "fav100 master" that means something:-)

What an awesome photo! Very, very well framed, and I love the black and white.

The B&W has those nice soft greys I like. It's a tough call but I think the B&W is better.

I truly can't decide which one I like better. I normally would immediately gravitate towards the B&W because it helps you focus on the strong lines, but they both have some really nice qualities.

I do really like this, but I can't find the color one.

Thanks! The color version is behind a portal. (Hover your cursor over the picture, and a square appears top left - click on the square.)

Hmmm I saw the "portal" but it won't work... Is anyone else having this problem?

OK now I can comment right:) I like the B&W best... BUT it would also be cool to do a B&W and make the two colors (blue and gold) POP on the B&W version... You know, coloring the photo and all?

Yeah, though that may exceed my very limited Photoshop capabilities...

Both versions are awesome! I personally go for the B&W because with the absence of color you're more immediately drawn into the spiral.

I prefer this version, it gives it a vintage feel which to me adds something to the image. Brillant capture!
