I spent last night at the west coast home of the Mitts, the family from whom I rent my room in Kerikeri. I stopped at the entrance to Hokianga Harbor on the way, which was spectacular. Mary and Christiana took me on a rainy tramp through the woods to look at an old commune and I managed to get in a quick walk around the ancienct Kauri forests as well. Their place is beautiful and rustic, a peaceful sanctuary in the hills.

This beach has some jagged rocks and big rips. This poor little guy probably got dashed against them, then washed up on shore. Allie, particularly, was pretty upset to see him. We made him an alter and she wrote him an homage. It was very sweet.
