The name is intentionally pretentious. I like the composition of this shot.

Russel Day Trip |
Hokianga Overnight |
Saturday, I did a little loop, driving the long way to Russel and taking the car ferry back. The road to Russel was actually closed, so I had to take the detour, a dirt road through some very pretty countryside.

I spent last night at the west coast home of the Mitts, the family from whom I rent my room in Kerikeri. I stopped at the entrance to Hokianga Harbor on the way, which was spectacular. Mary and Christiana took me on a rainy tramp through the woods to look at an old commune and I managed to get in a quick walk around the ancienct Kauri forests as well. Their place is beautiful and rustic, a peaceful sanctuary in the hills.

Cape Reinga Day Trip |
Hokianga Overnight |
It was great to see my dad and hang out with him "in his element" for a couple of days before heading to NZ.

I took a day and drove to the northernmost tip of New Zealand. It was neato to see where the Tasman Sea meets the South Pacific.
