struck down, but not destroyed |

This morning, I helped an injured deer out of the road. Local police considered putting him down, but ended up deciding to let him live, hoping he'll survive.
He gave me a bit of a scare when he nearly hurt the woman who arrived on the scene before me. She was able to coax him into standing up and then I helped him to decide to leave the road. We did a bit of a dance before he decided which way he wanted to go.
Then, after everyone else left, he stuck around and let me photograph him. He could walk just fine, but one of his eyes was pretty much destroyed.
When the police arrived, I came out of the trees and led them to the deer. They brought an assault rifle and struggled over whether or not to put him down. They considered that he might have some brain damage and that it might be best to put him out of his misery, but he could get around OK and so they ended up deciding to let him wander off and hope that he survives.
