However with the long exposure mode is not so impossible to capture lightning storm :)

Are they stars we can see in the sky? It gives the impression that the lightning is forking out of thin air with not a cloud in sight.

I don't know. I remember some stars but not so much! Sure there's some noise, maybe is a mix of noise and stars. However I think that the effects of lighting tearing apart the sky is well obtained...but I can't say if is real or not :)
