The Auckland train station. This skylight is also a water feature above ground level. Rail in Auckland is pretty poor, but bringing the station back into the CBD was a big improvement.
Some idiotic rule meant that I couldn't use a tripod inside. I used a 1 second exposure for this shot.

The annual 'Boobs on Bikes' parade is quite popular among Aucklanders, despite the new mayor attempting to prevent it.
I overheard one bloke tell his pommie mate that this was one of our 'cultural events'. Well I suppose it is, although perhaps it would be nicer if it was boobs for boobs' sake as opposed to boobs for porn's sake.

Bus shelters, rubbish bins, benches, letterboxes, and of course roofs, windows and baloneys were prime locations for a view.

There was heavy cloud cover along the horizon on the 1st of January 2009 - this is when the sun finally showed itself. The photo was taken from Maungawhau Mount Eden (one of the many old volcanoes in the area).

The Strand Arcade was built in 1900 and rebuilt in 1910 after a fire. It was Auckland's second shopping arcade.

The parade may be called 'Boobs on Bikes' but this lady and others were riding atop vintage tanks. I couldn't get a decent shot of the tanks due to cops and crowds and the fear of being rolled over...

I don't know this band (I presume it's a band) but I liked the poster, especially with the branches crossing over.

Queen street was full of men, women, and indeed a few (accompanied and unaccompanied) children of all extractions. Mostly men unsurprisingly.

I didn't have one of these customary looking up at the Sky Tower photos...
It's the 2nd tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Indonesia built a taller one in 2006.
The mast at the top is home to an FM combiner for 58 antennas - reputedly the largest FM combiner in the world.

A train enters the Auckland CBD train station. The station is located under the site of the 1885 train station (which was tucked away behind the post office and random warehouses and other buildings).
Some idiotic rule meant that I couldn't use a tripod inside. I used a 1/5 second exposure for this shot.

The London Bar can be seen in the foreground - Home of Jazz in Auckland. Also seen is the Smith and Caughey's department store which has been in Auckland since 1884 (the visible building is from 1929).
