I don't think I've seen anyone quite as excited as this kid. Couldn't get a good enough photo of his excitement though. (Low light + excited kid + drizzle = very blurry photo)

Crowds and construction workers look on as bare breasted women go past in the Boobs on Bikes parade of 2009. You may recognise the building from my photo of last year's parade.

The Ports of Auckland sister tugs Waka Kume and Waipapa along with older cousin Daldy entertained onlookers along Prince's Wharf. Their anticts reminded me of trained orcas at feeding time.

Two seemingly mismatched tugs attempt to werestle each other for the benefit of onlookers during the Auckland Anniversary Day celebrations. The little tug realised it couldn't push back the larger tug, but it could spin it around into submission.

The William C. Daldy. This steam powered tug boat converted for passenger cruises is best known for saving the Auckland Harbour Bridge. During construction of the winds gale force winds threatened to blow the centre section of the bridge off the construction barge. This tug was called in and for 36 hours non stop this tug battled against the winds to keep the section under control.

Her Majesty's New Zealand Ship Te Mana. (Te is 'New Zealandish' for 'The' and 'Mana' is 'status' or 'authority'. For two days the upper decks and bridge were open to the public. On the final day of the Anniversay Weekend, (Anniversary Day) the ship was host to important dignitaries who wished to get the best seat on the water for the day's races. Here it is being tugged by Waka Kume and Waipapa away from Prince's Wharf.

Anand Satyanand, the Governor-General (New Zealand's de-facto President) boards the naval frigate Te Mana to watch the regata. Protocol dictates that he boards the ship first before his wife can even step onto the gangplank (don't blame us, it's British).
