It was hard to choose one picture to post because I took so many fun ones today. Today was the annual BAICA Missions Fair at IBC. Every year, the school picks a mission to sponsor and then holds a fair to raise money for it. Each of the K-12 classes comes up with a booth or game that the students then run on the day of the fair. Our class did a smoothie stand with a topical tiki theme (shown above!) and a “jail”. We made a lot of money. The kindergarten class made the most, though. Their booth put a price on all the teachers’ heads. If they raised enough money, the teacher would get a “pie” in their face. For instance, Mr. Johnson said that he would get a pie in his face if the kids raised 300 pesos. Mr. Smedley had a bit higher price: $600. Mr. Schimpff placed his price at 50. Our class decided to join in the fun and offer our whole class to be pied plus Mr. Smedley for 1000 pesos. Somebody paid the thousand and we all got it bad. It was pretty gross, but it went to a good cause. All in all, we made a good amount of money and had a great time.

Tuesday was my friend Melisa’s birthday. Since this is her last year at BAICA, we wanted to do something… special for her birthday. Katie and Lizzie and Michelle and I schemed over what we could do. We decided on a “kidnapping” that took place today. We grabbed Melisa on the way out of school and forced her into the backseat of Lizzie’s car. They were then going to drive around for a while while Katie and some of the other girls went to IBC to set up the party, which will be a sleepover tonight. The kidnapping was great fun! I recommend it for a memorable way to start any party (if you’re sure the “victim” won’t get too freaked out!) By the way, that’s a pillowcase over her head.

Though it features a rather disgusting subject, I picked this photo to post because the way I came about taking it.
I was early to American Lit. class and was just getting my things organized when Miss Rinehold said, “Carina!”
(I jumped a little because she said it pretty unexpectedly.)
“Yes, Miss Rinehold?” I replied.
“How would you like to do me a huge favor?”
“Sure, what?”
“Downstairs in the lobby there is this absolutely huge glob of pink bubblegum on the floor. I had to have been dropped this morning and, yeah, it’s pretty fresh. Would you mind-”
And here I and everyone else in the class held our breaths… :P
“Would you mind going down there and taking a picture of it for me so we can document the thing?”
We all thought that she was going to ask me to clean it up or something. Which would have been very unlike her! So I ran down stairs with my camera and shot a couple pictures of it. It was huge! (And gross!)

“Ooh! Look at the tree! It grew these beautiful flowers on it overnight!”
That was my mom as she saw this tree in our backyard this morning as we walked to the car. Buenos Aires is teeming with signs of new life. It’s amazing to see things that seem to have sprung up overnight, like the flowering branches on the tree.
