Mar del Plata lies south of Buenos Aires. Getting there takes about 5 hours, driving. It’s mostly a whole lot of nothing on the way out. Flat, scrubby land. A few small towns and cities. Lots of cows and sheep. It was nice to be out of the city for a change. Just green grass and that gorgeous blue sky!

enjoying the view

We were vacationing in Mar del Plata this past weekend. I was sick the whole weekend and, unfortunately, couldn't leave the apartment. I had my mom take pictures for me since I couldn't myself. She's pretty good! I wish I could have seen the beach and the city (all I saw was the inside of my eyelids and the four walls of the room I was in), but her photos are the next best thing. They had a great time. My uncle has a waverunner so he was giving them rides. They walked around the city and saw the sights which included the majestic view of the ocean, amazing old buildings, and sea lions. I wish we could go again so that I could enjoy it too, but Mar del Plata is absolutely packed in the summertime. Maybe next year!

dulce de leche earthquake cake

Today was Mr. Smedley’s birthday. I usually bake cakes for anyone if it’s their special day. This was the cake I made with the intention of giving it to Mr. Smedley. It’s a vanilla cake with dulce de leche in the middle. It was supposed to have a caramel frosting on top. That’s where I messed it up. The cake part of it turned out spectacular, but I burned the icing. I tried to assemble it anyways, but it was a mess. So I peeled off the hardened caramel blechness and this was what was left. Tasty, but unpresentable. My family wasn’t too bummed, though. (As you can tell by the picture, they dove right in!)

happy thursday!

happy thursday!

Julie, a senior at our school, is the inventor of a long-running BAICA tradition. "Happy Thursday!" she'll be quick to say to all the girls as they walk into school. You see, the tradition is that Thursday is also Dangly Earrings Day. If you have your ears pierced, you're supposed to wear "dangly" style earrings. It's a fun (and cute) tradition that everybody (especially Julie) takes pretty seriously. If you don't wear dangly earrings on Thursdays, you're likely to get a cheerful, "Happy Thursday!" from Julie and also an, "It's ok, I forgive you." Not that people really hurt her feelings if they don't wear them. She just doesn't want to see a good tradition die.

sunbeams

Sunbeams shining through the persianas this morning. The camera didn't quite capture how perfect the bright, slender rays were. I love the sunshine.

from one roof to another

I took this picture from the roof of our school. It’s a beautiful house, surrounded by trees. I loved the color of it and how it seemed so close even though it was probably about 20 blocks or more away.

through the keyhole

I stayed home from school today. I’ve been suffering from lack of sleep, extreme fatigue, persistent exhaustion- you get the picture. I needed a day off. Anyway, since I was cooped up in the house all day, I decided to try and capture that feeling in a photograph. The result is the above photo: the view through the keyhole of our front door.

making pizza

Not much happened today. I spent all afternoon procrastinating and not writing my essay that's due tomorrow. My mom made some homemade pizza. There's the dough mixing in the mixer! Yay! My mom's a good cook. I'm glad she doesn't procrastinate.
