This is an 8.5 hour exposure. The rainbow thing is the moon as it traveled across the sky.

So, did you use a timer? Or did you set it go to bed wake up and close the shutter?

I opened the shutter after dark and then had to get up before sunrise to close it. It's not something I'm willing to do every day.

Did you use a regular ol' lens made out of glass or a pinhole or something?

It was a fisheye, and I had to set it at f/22 to get the exposure correct. If only they made fisheye pinholes.

How many attempts did you make before you got the exposure correct? Very impressive.

Just a few. My biggest problem was condensation on the lens. Fortunately this one was taken on a very windy night.
