An Experiment in Macro Photography |

This is as close as I can get to calling my camera a microscope. These are salt crystals (yes, table salt) magnified who knows how many times. I used three extension tubes at a total of 65mm and a 200mm telephoto lens coupled with a reverse-mounted 50mm lens. Due to the extremely small depth of field, I had to stop both apertures all the way down, and as a result the resolution is terrible and there is vignetting in the top corners. On top of that, there is significant noise, the depth of field is still small despite my attempts at increasing it, and there are small spots in the image of a dubious origin. All in all, a success!
