Today I learned something new. When you take a picture of a jumping spider, it will look up from its meal, stare right back at you, and smile.

Lovely! It looks as if it's expecting a pat on the head, or a scratch behind the ears. Or whatever it has instead of ears.

I would say it was certainly more aware of my presence than any other spider would be, but it didn't seem afraid of me at all. As I was watching it eat, it was watching me.
