HumCity podcast #29 with The NPK
We listen to The NPK. A southern Humboldt trio I filmed a couple of years ago at Six Rivers Brewery in McKinnleyville and loved their unique sound. The NPK's new self titled cd is full of that unique original sound I remember from that night. I also remember them introducing me as their friend Mr. Carroll. From that night on I felt like a friend to the NPK. That's the way you feel leaving a NPK gig. I call it SoHum hospitality.
I built NPK a web space early on. They now have a dot com, TheNPK.com. You can also find them at MySpace.
Tracks we listen to are Outlaw's Grave and Move With Reason. Show intro by Tony Steidler-Dennison at the The Roadhouse podcast. Background music by Moo-Got-2. Don't forget to visit us at HumCity.com or at MySpace

We listen to Davy Jones by Echo Helstrom off their upcoming album The Veil. Four classical and jazz trained musicians from Portland, Oregon. Ross, Will, Alessandra and Mike began their musical lives playing jazz and classical music before creating what you hear now. This influence is probably easy to notice and they hope you like it. You can visit Echo Helstrom at www.echohelstrom.net or www.myspace.com/echohelstrom

HumCity Podcast #27 Lions In The Street
We listen to Already Gone and Lady Blue by, four longhaired Canadians, the Lions In The Street. Their bio reasd: Songs from our parent's basement, recorded on an 8-track, with guitar solos. Believe it. Band Membersare Chris on Guitar and Vocals. Sea on Guitar. Enzo on Bass. Jeff on Drums and Organ. They list their influences as the Rolling Stones (you think?), Faces, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, and Tom Petty
In an interview at tortonabeat.com the boys described themselves as 4 Longhaired Canadians, tired of getting kicked in the balls by the record business in the US, release music for free to the people. We turned down making a record with Todd Rundgren, same with Bob Ezrin. The vibe wasn't right. Instead we're releasing free homemade demos, recorded by us, in our basement, with accompanying homemade videos. And they sound killer. We might be the best pure rock and roll band in the world. Dig it. And the only current rock and roll band with a great guitar player, in the style of Mick Taylor or Eric Clapton
show intro by Tony Steidler-Dennison at the The Roadhouse podcast.

HumCity Podcast #23 with DMBQ
We listen to DMBQ. While touring the East coast DMBQ tragically lost their drummer in an auto accident. They have added a new drummer and recently said "We think China hopes DMBQ keeps rockin' even if she can not play with us. So we decided we never stop DMBQ." They'll play a string of dates with the likes of ZZZ, Afrirampo, and more, including a stop at the SXSW Music Festival. If you live near Humboldt you can see DMBQ live at the Six Rivers Brewery, 1300 Central Avenue, McKinleyville, California on March 10, 2006 at 9pm. Visit DMBQ at www.dmbq.net

HumCity Podcast #26 with The Love X Nowhere
On HumCity Podcast #26 we listen to shoe-gazer music by San Francisco based band, The Love X Nowhere. Their bio reads: The Love X Nowhere makes San Francentric music that drops like sparks from the Muni lines on a rainy night. On Odyssey, their second EP, TLXN finds themselves amidst an evolution of shoegaze and dream rock. A big lush one-sound coming forth from guitars heavy with the sway of chorus and delays, analog synth sounds as though from previous incarnations, and solid grooves that never lead the listener astray. Two vocalists who wind their way through harmony and melody, reminiscint of a bridge between Pink Floyd and Slowdive. The Love (times) Nowhere is: Gabriel Leis, Brett Chulada, Michael Chulada, Yuki Kasuya, and Adam Perry
