5th of July 2008, Madrid's Gay Pride takes over the city centre with more than a million participants in the actual parade and the city filled with people watching, chanting, dancing, drinking etc... The theme for this year was "Por la visibilidad lesbica" (For the visibility of lesbians) although the organizers are a collective compromising of lesbians, gays, transexuals and bisexuals (always mentioned in that order for some reason). The event occured peacefully but with a lot of trash... confetti, bottles, cans and all sorts of litter left the city in a horrible state. The traffic was closed off in all the central zones through which most traffic goes through anyway which made more than one driver unhappy. However, the whole city was in a festive mood, everyone was out and about in the streets and local businesses near the parade were making a killing, especially with cold drinks and snacks.
