I'm using the lens that came with the camera, Canon EFS 18-55mm. I've found close ups work better with this lens by standing back a little and zooming in. I usually use a larger aperture on macros to reduce the depth of field. I like some areas of the photo to be soft, with the main subject in sharp focus.

That's really nice work with the kit lens. Did you have to crop the original? I didn't think you could get so close at 31mm. My macro skills definitely need more practice!
Thanks. I've had the camera for almost 2 years, so I've gotten pretty familiar with how it behaves. I didn't do any cropping, and just some minor contrast adjustment in Picasa.
Some kind of subscription would be nice, maybe in Mark III.
