Aha! You've still got the IR-blocking filter in your dSLR, haven't you? At least, it strongly looks like it; the tree foliage should be white if it worked. Some compact cameras, like the Nikon 4500, are very IR-capable, but just a bit fiddly in comparison to a SLR.
A little research on my part would have helped. After seeing your post I realized the IR blocking on my Canon 30D can't be turned off without a costly modification. So this may be my last IR for a while. At least the filter wasn't expensive. I learn something about photography everyday :-)
