The Falkirk Wheel is an example of imaginative and artistic engineering. The wheel connects the Union Canal from Edinburgh with the Forth Clyde Canal allowing barges and boats inland access from Glasgow to Edinburgh. The electricity used to make each lift is the equivalent of 8 electric kettles at an electricity cost of £10 per day (less then $20 dollars) A link to the site Falkirk Wheel

I saw this on TV program a while back, it's a pretty cool system. Maybe someday I'll get to see it in person.

Thx Gary, The two canals had been blocked for many years and the 11 locks which had connected them had been demolished. When they came to rebuild the system they decided to do something different. :-) I have posted a link to the site above
