you might want to let thomas hawk (www.thomashawk.com) and/or boing boing (www.boingboing.net) know... they tend to get up in arms about this kind of stupidity.
there was a petition doing the rounds on the number 10 site about needing ID cards to photograph in public in the UK< but they sent out an email today from No.10 saying that this was a FEAR of the photographers, but not a policy coming in. Of course, if ID cards go through, then photographer or not, we'll all have to carry them.
Yeah, got the same email too. I was pretty frightened when I read about this story. Fortunately, it was only a rumour. Although, it's not so much the general (national) ID card but the idea of an ID card just for photographers that bugs me. Maybe that's because I grew up in Germany where ID cards are mandatory anyway. It's pretty interesting to recognise how different perspectives are when growing up in different countries/environments. My uncle in new york has been held up by homeland security twice for taking pics around bridges. Art has become a dangerous biz.
