Bikes are not the car and train alternatives they are in the US; they serve more as vehicles for covering a mile trip to a train station, grocery shopping, and inter-neighborhood excursions. As weird as this looks, it makes sense for those that can't walk long distances, and have trouble balancing a two-wheeler.
