We have a mated pair that hunt in our yard. This one was sitting in our Queen Palm just at the end of our patio. It was looking in our back door at our cat.

Cicada Killer Wasp (Sphecius speciosus) |
Peninsula Cooter, Pseudemys peninsularis |
We got them 9-22-10 at 7.5 weeks old. |
They are very large (1.5") solitary wasps. They sting and paralyze a Cicada then lay an egg in the Cicada as food for their young. This one is actually hauling a Cicada high up into our Queen Palm Tree.

We moved and are near a canal. This Florida Peninsula Cooter was a recent guest crossing our back yard.
