I've always enjoyed looking for interesting textures and backgounds. The circular pattern on this rusty manhole cover immediately caught my eye. It has a grungy, industrial feel.

The Canon 50mm lens has great depth-of-field but can be a little tricky to use below f/2.0. The DOF is razor thin. Once you get comfortable with it you can create some interesting effects. This abstract circular pattern was created from a group of pastic cups.

Peeling paint on old brick wall. Snapped this yesterday walking around the historic district in Milledgeville, Georgia. The old buildings provided lots of weathered surfaces to create abstract backgrounds and textures.
