La Ilha do Pessegueiro tiene dos características curiosas: la primera es que es una duna fosilizada, y la segunda es que el nombre no viene del melocotonero (es lo que significa "pessegueiro") sino que deriva de "peixe" (pescado)
Hubo una miniexplotación minera romana y se intentó construir aquí un puerto, pero jamás fue finalizado
