The sun sets in the west behind a downpour of rain and casts a long shadow east. The shadow reached from horizon to horizon and passed directly overhead. Go here for a description of Anticrepuscular Rays. Definitely best viewed large Google Map Map of Location blogged at the "Sunrise, Sunset -- Anything Sun" group blog.

Phantom Rig

The big rig drove into frame as I was trying to capture distant lightning.. I stopped the exposure... but the results were just so unexpectedly cool that I kept it.

Orion comes above the horizon beyond the tower of the Solari Music Center, Arcosanti, Arizona. Orion through the branches of a desert Ocotillo. The Myth: The goddess Artemis (goddess of Wild Animals and of the Moon) fell in love with the handsome Orion. Her brother, Apollo, did not like this and plotted to destroy Orion. One day while Orion was swimming, Apollo walked by with Artemis. Apollo challenged her to hit the target bobbing in the water. Artemis did not know it was the head of Orion and shot her arrow. The arrow struck Orion in the head killing him. When Orion's body washed ashore by the waves, Artemis was horrified to see her arrow and to learn that she had been tricked by Apollo. In great sadness she tenderly placed the body of Orion in her silver Moon-chariot an carried him up into the sky.

It's good to have pictures of your friends. I know.. top down in an Arizona Monsoon seems like a bad idea... I just make an effort to outrun the rain!
