Frangipani

Puppy Dog Eyes

Frangipani

Frangipani (Plumeria) flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers have no nectar, and simply dupe their pollinators. The flowers are pollinated as the moths inadvertently transfer pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar. Here in Hawai'i, they're commonly used for the making of leis.

Bokeh Smokeh

Please Release Me, Let Me Go...

Bokeh Smokeh

This is a straight-on macro photo of the tip of a blade of this wildgrass. I don't use the word "bokeh" very often, but decided to do so here because it's the only word I know which rhymes with "smokeh".

Absolut Citron Martini - Up - Shaken Hard - With a Twist

Back in the day this used to be my cocktail of choice at business and social gatherings. Sometimes I'd have business and social gatherings with no one else in attendance. For those with a propensity for depression, you're best served staying away from this stuff. In current times I might have one of these every six months, or so. But just one...

Wouldn't You Like To Be A Pepper, Too?

Waimea, Hawai'i

Wouldn't You Like To Be A Pepper, Too?

The lady at the market stand where these were being sold was trying to talk me into buying one of these things. Though I knew before she started her pitch that there's no way I could get this thing through the Hawaii Agriculture checkpoint, I wanted to hear her speal. She said the peppers could be eaten now or I could wait 6 months for them to dry. She went on to explain they could be eaten up to two years from now and could be used as decoration for up to eight years. She used a heckuva lot more words than I just did to explain all this. When I decided I had heard enough of her pitch, I asked her if they came with instructions on how they should be dusted while hanging in my bathroom for the next eight years. At that point, as per my plan, the pitch ended.
