Pedalo

This is Toddy Pond in East Orland, Maine. My favourite place from my whole US trip. Awesome place, awesome people! And I never had a go on that pedalo, but I was in that lake for a morning swim each day of my stay. Bliss.

And now for something a little different. After leaving Boston we drove up to the beautiful Toddy Pond in East Orland, Maine. I was there for a friend's wedding party beside the lake, and this is what happens when you tell children to run around with the strings of lights that were on guest's tables for 30 seconds at a time! They got quite into it once they could see what patterns appeared as they went.

The Great Dome

The MIT Stata Center

The Great Dome

I featured the quirky, now I've got to feature the traditional, when it comes to the MIT campus in Boston. The Great Dome is pretty iconic of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, although mostly because of the various pranks held over the years on or around it!

The MIT Stata Center

On my last day in Boston, I crossed the river to have a quick wander round the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus, before leaving for Maine. MIT's Stata Center certainly stood out amongst all the other buildings, it's quirky, in all its various strange shapes and sizes. It did however remind me an awful lot of our very own Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. However Frank Gehry, who was the architect behind the Stata Center, had nothing to do with the Scottish Parliament as far as I know! Both buildings though seem to have had their fair share of problems in day to day use. There's a reason why most buildings don't look like this.

Piping

I liked the bright copper (I guess?) piping on the outside of this building, it looked very different and made the whole building stand out from others nearby.

Watching you

I only noticed whilst processing this photo that there was a man watching me from his window. In fact there may even have been someone standing just to the left of him too, I think I can see a faint outline of another person. Which is fine, it was just a bit creepy when I suddenly noticed it :)

No. 87

The houses in Boston look really rather welcoming, and after spending days in New York it was nice to see so much green! Surprisingly, when I used Google Street View to try and work out if I could remember roughly where I was when I took this photo, I got the location bang on first time. Turns out I knew exactly where this was taken!

Park Street Church

The corner of Park Street Church. Lots of churches in Boston. And this is one of the very few buildings in Boston that doesn't have the word "Old" in its title, even though its actually older than some of those which do!

Towering above me

More green fire escapes (albeit not the focus of this shot), in the same area as the last couple of shots before the 'Old South Meeting House'. I would have stayed longer taking shots at weird angles, but the heat was fierce and I had a lot more of Boston to explore before the day was out! Oh, and I just spelt Massachusetts correctly in the tags (and now here) too without having to look it up, which is a first!
