Halle de Milly-la-Forêt

Halle de Milly-la-Forêt

In 1479, thanks to a special intervention of King Louis XI, Admiral de Graville, Lord of Milly, obtained the right to build this market and to hold 3 fairs per year and a market every week. The covered market is situated north-south and is 46 meters long, 16 meters wide and 13 meters high. It covers a total surface of 730 meters. 48 oak pilars, resting on "dado" stone based hold a typical Ile-de-France framework of that time. The frame presents in the north (Rue Langlois) a truss "gable" and in the south a truss "pavillion". The square, the houses surrounding it, give evidence of the commercial activities which have been going on since 500 years ago. The covered market is a classified historical monument since 1923. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milly-la-Forêt
