Robin Frakes's Photos

This was taken in an old underground bunker. (not the same bunker as the other photo I have listed) A group of us were taking a hike in the woods near an old military post. We went inside this underground bunker and we came down a hallway to a small room. It felt like a creepy room to me so after a few moments of feeling that, I said, “Let’s go”. My daughter had just stepped in and so she turned around to come out. (The white line you see is a wire that was hanging down from the ceiling and I think thats her arm seen near the top right-inside the wire). I had lifted my camera to compose a shot because I was really drawn to the natural light coming in from above - creepy feeling or not! Since switching to digital photography years ago, I never worry about how many photos I take so I remember being very surprised with myself by suddenly thinking,”Oh never mind - I don’t see anything that I want” and decided against taking the shot. But as I started to bring the camera down, I must have hit the shutter button because I heard the camera go off. That really surprised me too as I am used to this camera and hadn’t done that before. There is always a first time for everything though. I couldn’t resist saying,”Well I guess it wanted its picture taken”. I completely forgot about it until later on when I was reviewing my photos from the day. We all noticed what appeared to be a man with long hair. Not a happy face I’d say. Most of the face is inside the wire. The tip of the (my daughter’s) elbow is just above the right eyebrow and eye socket. That leads into long nose that goes down to the other side of the “V” inside the wire. The forehead is just under the light coming in. There is a vague outline of white hair. Some people even see an open mouth with a few teeth! Hmmm…..do you see him - or do you not? You decide! We just find it pretty interesting.

Strange Photography. This is a photo taken in the Shanghai Tunnels in Portland, OR - a very interesting place and that is known to be haunted. In the late 1800's people were kidnapped, then drugged and taken through these tunnels to be sold to ship captains. There is actually a trap door that goes to a bar above and this would be one of the ways they were shanghaied. This was my first time in and I ended up with quite a few photographs like this. I guess there is alot to be said on the "spirit orb-or not" subject, I just find them very intriguing and they make for interesting conversations too.

This was taken at a small (cold, very cold) pond in late autumn and in the next instant I slipped and fully crashed right into it...destroying all the ice and the great "photo moment" that I was enjoying. I had to laugh at myself because for someone else that would have had to be a great video moment as well. I did learn to be more careful where I place my feet when I am caught up in the intensity of the "capture" as there are many worse places to fall into!
