Thanks, Casey! It's actually very simple. You add an adjustment layer using curves in PS or equivalent (I actually use the free GIMP software which is fantastic - http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html for their download page). In the curves dialog you create an extravagant curve by pulling the shadows/mid-tones right up to maximum output, and the mid-tones/highlights right down to zero output. You then fiddle about with the peak and the trough of the curve you've created until you get the colour and tone distortion that you want. It's quite hard to predict which images are most suited for this treatment, although I've found that landscapes with lots of green very rarely are.

I like what you did with the editing, it still looks natural, as if it's taken using a slower shutter speed. Nice one there.
