Housing Shortage? |
by fotonix |
Social commentary: In Wales, like many other parts of the UK, there is a chronic lack of housing, let alone housing that's affordable to first-time buyers (and many second or third timers, too!) So, why on earth are there literally thousands of derelict buildings like this, which could so easily be rebuilt in traditional materials? I could never understand it. It could regenerate a rural economy. But, no, we prefer new developments on greenbelt land. A truly silly country.
Still, I guess the farmer will wake up one day and sell it for about £650,000 to a city broker as a weekend getaway. Bargain (!)

It's the same story in France, where the centre of village after village is littered with empty and run-down old property, whilst on the outskirts appalling pink bungalows sprout like a ghastly acne! The French have at last acted to reverse the financial subsidies that have encouraged this, but we'll have to wait and see if that is enough to wean the citizenry from their obsession with modernity.
Oh, and this is a well-taken photograph as well!!
