Great Wall Shopping Mall

Katherine took me by the Great Wall Shopping Mall and 99 Ranch Market. They said the prices suck compared to what they're used to back home in Taiwan, but as an American, I was quite impressed with the prices. It's too bad it's sort of out of the way, around south Renton or so, I think. I wanted to shoot the building because it was themed! And themed buildings are fun, right? And yes, the building extends off to both sides in a simulated Great Wall.

Kiki

My friend, Kat's, well...cat. Her name is Kiki. She is mischievous as cats are wont to be. I got her to sit still long enough to snap a pic that wasn't blurry.

Wiffiti at the Hurricane Cafe

I wound up out for some midnight breakfast with my good friend Mai Li this morning at the Hurricane Cafe in downtown Seattle. As we sipped our cozy hot drinks and awaited our expensive plates of food, I noticed a large LCD screen above the diner bar and kitchen area. This is what was on it. At first I passed it off as trendy, clever advertising. But we looked closer and noticed they were little back and forth messages, and then I read the bottom of the screen. It hit me, that this was a kick-ass little system where you text message this system with your cell phone and get your message displayed. There were cute little conversations going all over the place. This morning I was thinking about it, still fascinated with such a cool toy in a Seattle cafe with an awesome atmosphere, so I looked it up. I found out more at http://www.wiffiti.com/txtoutloud/ Then I noticed the various locations where you can find these in cities are linked up to a central system. The website actually shows you what's on their screens. And I noticed that the screen hadn't changed much since last night / this morning

Starbucks in the Nude

I had been hearing stories about some teachers at a school that were asked to cover their Starbucks Anniversary edition cups, featuring the Starbucks mermaid exposing her bare breasts in classic, artistic, mythical fashion. Because it was distracting to students. Please. Maybe if we didn't shelter our youth from a little artistic nudity it wouldn't be such a big deal? You know, a little mature education? And there's the simple fact that if you get sprung from this cup, you've got some more serious issues stemming from this kind of censure and artistic, cultural, and education guidance avoidance. Ugh. Heavy gripe huh? Well my co-worker wound up with on of the cups - which the employees conveniently covered with the hot band shown - and I wanted to get a snap. It's a bit blurry, but my cameraphone doesn't do close-up so well, so there it is.

Access Grate Not Found

I've been wanting to get a picture of this. It's just a grate to the north side of the sidewalk outside where I work - Building 50 on Microsoft's Redmond campus - along 40th, near its intersection to 156th. Subtle computer geek humor. Apparently this grate can't be found. Damn 404 errors cropping up everywhere these days.

Microsoft Sign

Just a sign on the northeast corner of 156th and 40th on Microsoft's Redmond campus. That's Building 50, where I work, peeking through the bushes behind.

Fun with Sign Generators: God's Wings

I had to do another one of these... The sign just reminded me too much of the type you find outside some greasy-ass hamburger joint (like Small Fryes!)

I saw this sign generator, and this background, and I just had to make it say this.

Small Fryes sign, right

During the adventures of Mai Li, Nicol and myself, we found a shop in Issaquah that we stopped at...because Nicol saw armor, yelled "ARMOR!" really loud, and naturally, we were intrigued. Talking to the store owner, he tempted us out to Fall City sometime to check out his larger store with more interesting shit. And then he asked us if we liked really big, thick, meaty, grease-dripping hamburgers. Mouths watering, we answered "uh huh!". He tells us if we're ever in Fall City, we need to look out for Small Fryes. We decided a food adventure was in order. And we found the place. This is the right side of their sign. Check out the left side, too. Now this is what I call truth in advertising! Sufficed to say the burgers were nummy!

Down a River

Come As You Are

Down a River

I went adventuring with my friend Mai Li and her friend Nicole. We drove by a cute looking river so we stopped to investigate. There were these weird cords strung high across the river with small meter-stick-looking pieces of wood hanging from them. They said something about kayaking so all I can determine was they were there to mark a course. That's the bridge we drove across.

Come As You Are

This is an example of probably the most decent thing I've seen come out of any Christianity for a long time. Of course, when you consider this is along the main drag (no pun intended) of Capitol Hill, it's probably not that suprising. If you can't figure it out, this is a church building with an enormous hanging sign. It's in the rainbow theme and reads, "You are welcome here. Come as you are."
