Dianne and I paddled this lovely bit of water just off the North Canadian River. The area is locally known as The Watermelon Patch because that is what it used to be before the river flooded it. Dianne caught a fish and we saw both geese and beaver.

The Elephant Rock is a well known landmark on the Illinois River near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. You can camp near here at Elephant Rock Nature Park. Dianne and I spent a night there last summer in one of their yurts after paddling the river in our kayaks. They shuttle too!

The morning I took these pictures on my way to work, I had hoped for a brillant, red sunrise and lots of mist coming off the water. I have seen it many times on my commute. The weather wasn't going along on this morning and I didn't think the scene was very attractive. I took a small number of shots and left quickly. When I got home I found the shots very warm and compelling and now the Refuge looks prettier to me everytime I visit.
