The sun was a convenient light box for these images, as it was at just the right angle. You can read about contagious yawning here.

Thanks, Tom. I wasn't sure if it was much good.

What made you think of shooting yourself yawning?

I was going to take a picture anyway, but I started yawning like the insomniac I am. So I took a couple more. Then I yawned again and again from looking at pictures of myself yawning. It was torture.

Wondering how do you maintain the red color and yet still make your face black & white. I am curious as how do you accomplish this effect. Thanks

For whatever reason, my face turned up in the yellow and magenta hues more than red. Using the selective color adjustment layer, I tweaked the settings until I was somewhat happy with the colors. Then, using noiseninja, and if I recall, also Photoshop's built in grain reducer, smoothed the colors without altering the edits.

In addition, I used a curves adjustment layer with special blending modes so that it would only affect mid-tones (achieved by adjusting the sliders in blending options). My face is very pale, but the adjustment layer make the exposure look a little better.

Setting the adjustment layer to the blending mode of luminosty helped preserve the color depth. There might be a hue/sat layer on top of it all to increase the overall color- something I have little of, being white and all. The shirt was very red, and under direct sunlight, looked pretty vibrant.

The capture makes my dark brown hair look coffee black, but that's probably just the fault of the iSight's sensor. Other tweaks included extreme contrast on the background (it was dark to begin with) to blacken it out almost entirely, and then some minor color fixes to make my teeth look more symmetrical and more like bone than amalgam.

If you have other questions, or if I didn't explain what you wanted to know very well, drop a line. :)
