Did you scan this in like the other bug because this is such a different perspective to see a bee. I mean, I think I can make out a face.

Thanks, J! I try to make them best as possible. Yes, I did scan this one like the others. Its left wing (on the right) was sticking up a bit, and the back wings (lower) were just about flat on its back, so the little corpse was pressing up on the sheet of paper I used as backing (the white background). Evidently that helped it press its dead face onto the glass. Voila, bee portrait.

I read an article in Smithsonian about a guy who does exactly what you do with his scanner, except he's been given access to all the dead little creatures in the archives at the National Museum of Natural History. I'm super jealous.
