Topic: Bug list / Feature List

wrote Posted 2 years, 1 month ago
I'll try to update this message regularly. Only I can edit this main message. Note that some of the enhancements may be restricted to Pro accounts only when implemented. This list is by no means exhaustive. We have a much larger internal bug tracking system but at least it gives you guys an idea of some of the things we are working on.

#1 priority right now is to get SmartSets back up online.

Features to be implemented

1. SmartSets

1b. Page SmartSets

2. Recent Activity

3. Favorite pools

4. Photo pools for groups

5. Zooomr Analytics (including trackbacks)

6. Group Search

7. Promote other admins in groups

8. Account page allowing settings for large sized photos, change user name, password, delete account, profile description, avatar, etc.

9. Enable invitations to invite to group as well as invite to your photostream as friend via email.

10. Develop a way to flag offensive images and have an opt in filter for people to select to apply to their viewing experience.

Bugs

1. Search photos does not currently filter by you or contacts.

2. Rotate Image Render Bugs.

3. Fix various uploading bugs to ensure greater stability in terms of EXIF IPTC data including geotags.

4. After posting to a group thread Zooomr doesn't return you to the end of that thread and your post.

5. Group members needs to page to show all members in a group.

Enhancements

1. Create better reply threading in Zipline.

2. Page Zipline.

3. Open API. Flickr to Zooomr importer.

4. Allow user permissions for tagging, peopletagging, etc.

Tom, this is great! But please disable comments for everyone but yourself and Kris on this thread.

Raoul, I just added the ability to disable comments and lock threads as enhancement #8 on the list ;)

A very helpful and welcome development. And Raoul, I promise I won't make any other comments in this thread!! :)

Some pics from before MIII are only showing in thumbnail size. Such as this one http://www.zooomr.com/photos/alankennedy/933831/

Can you include in the list or if its better to reupload (not great option...)

Just so you know uploading is still not working on Linux with recent Firefox (2.0.0.4), progress bar shows uploading but then new photos are not seen. Cheers.

Icars, the issue with Firefox and Linux has something to do with flash. It's my understanding that some people have found workarounds to this. Hopefully when we have jUploader back up online this will be a viable alternative for people using Firefox/Linux as well.

Thanks Thomas.

Thomas is there going to be a fix for the problem mentioned earlier, or is the original size lost?
wrote Posted on July 17, 2007 (permalink)
I don't think it's very useful to have a thread on bugs/features when you still have to read the entire message thread to get the updates. Soon this thread will be unreadable like the Official Zooomr Mark III Launch thread.

It would be nice if comments could be disabled so when we see the thread was updated it's because something "official" was added and not because another comment was left (like this one).

If comments can't be disabled I would suggest this topic be moved to a read-only blog, a wiki, or add the option to Groups to disable comments.

Fogview,

I don't think that Thomas intended for comments to be left here. Only Thomas can edit the original message at the top of the page so the updates should only be done at the top. These comments, including this one can be ignored.

Thomas,

First of all, thanks. It's good to see at least a rough idea of where your priorities lie.

Please, when you edit the top of the thread, use html strike tag to strike things out when they're done. That way we can see what has been done already.

Thanks again,
Dave.

TravisP,

How do I know if this thread was updated because of a comment or something added by Thomas? I realize that comments are not intended to be left here but they are which makes this thread less useful.

There are so many other bugs in Zooomr (not listed here) that people will add them here because they think they have not be documented and won't be addressed. All the major and minor bugs have been added to the Trac database and Thomas' list is just an overview of things they are working on.

Fogview,

If you subscribe to the thread, checking it semi-regularly, or regularly, will always show Thomas' entry first so changes should be apparent.

It is not perfect, but at least shows something relatively easy to check.

Alan, maybe. For many of the images we might have a back up copy of a different size or can rebuild these images. That said though this will be an incredibly time consuming photo by photo process to do. Given the time/value proposition and our limited resources right now rebuilding these images will probably not be put ahead of some of the other things on that list.

The most helpful thing for us in this regards would be if people could delete any affected image and reupload. If this is not possible or another copy does not exist we will need to try and work with those images individually in the future if we can.

oke, this is what i was looking for... now i know it is not me or my computer that just didn't get what was happening...

but anyway, i was just browsing through my small collection of pictures and i thought it would be cool to see which photo is the most popular or most viewed, because as it turns out i'm surprised by my #1...

anyway keep up the good work, and i'll keep trying to convince people to become a zooomrist(?)

Just build an Image Replace feature, and we'll go through ourselves and replace the images that are showing up wrong.

This would likely be part of a strategy to address this at some point.

The post time doesn't update when TH bumps the first post.
Just set a bookmark and come back manually every few days and check progress.

I've got the same problem as Alan. The thing is, all the images are there, including the original, it's just that the page renders incorrectly.

I've started a new thread here to collect examples of this bug in action.

Add batch editing please
wrote Posted on July 20, 2007 (permalink)
ThankS Thomas!

I'd also love to see batch editing, a slidshow page, a way to let user request licences for photos and that zooomr would offer inline support for other services like printing (hopefully localized).

Thomas, I'd rather like to see normal upload with Firefox/Linux fixed rather than having to use jUploader. I'm pretty sure it's not impossible to fix.

If I where you I'd put this in the Bugs section, since it's a pretty severe one and it's currently preventing lots of people to upload pictures (which is your primary need as a photo sharing site). I honestly don't want to go around and find my way through horrible "workarounds" which involves firewalling traffic and/or disabling flash.

Cheers!

If we have the original sizes there should be no reason why we can't rebuild these. It's just a matter of having the time for Kristopher to do it in the big scope of things. Right now he's working very hard on getting SmartSets back online which is turning out to be an incredible task involving rebuilding about a third of our search system.

Icars, indeed. This is something we hope to fix.

Great work with getting Sets working again!
wrote Posted on July 21, 2007 (permalink)
only last 12 modified sets are viewed in the sets page
A post here was deleted on July 21, 2007
wrote Posted on July 21, 2007 (permalink)
kris, thank you for sets :) but why are just 12 of them shown up?

and a enhancement idea: more feeds for easier access to our photos without the api. I think adding a feed to some more pages (like set-pages) is not so much to do. and by the way I think just adding "/feed" to an URL is best for usability ;)

Hey Kris and Thomas...
what are the criterias for "awesome"?
maybe i found a "bug".
if i sort them by awesomness, a pic with 19 views and 0 favs is 1st and a pic with 23 views and 1 fav is 2nd?!
wrote Posted on July 25, 2007 (permalink)
Hell yeah. SmartSets are back. All of my family has been asking for grouping, so I had to use the search before. Now it's done with smartsets. :D
wrote Posted on July 25, 2007 (permalink)
Can anyone guide me in using SmartSets.

I don't see any photos to select for the SmartSets cover and there, the creating of smart sets just stops...
wrote Posted on July 25, 2007 (permalink)
To create SmartSets you:
1. You->Sets->Create New SmartSet
2. Select your group of photos for the set (click Add)
(click on Labels if you want to use tags to select your photos for the set)
3. Add a Title for the set
(after you enter a title, the "SmartSet Cover Photo" box will appear.
4. Click "Choose a Photo" for the SmartSet Cover.
5. Enter Tag(s) to display photos for the cover.
6. Click on a photo for the cover and click "Continue"
7. Click "Save" to finish the set.

Note: The cover photo must be a public photo (private photos will NOT show up as a cover photo choice even if the SmartSet contains only private photos)

I don't know if this helps or if you are seeing other problems with SmartSets
wrote Posted on July 25, 2007 (permalink)
Tom, it's probably time to strike out some items from the list since Kris has done them. Please use the strike tag, like Dave suggests.

Please Please Please add the IE Operation Abort error on pages with notes and/or geotags to the bug list with high priority! (and fix it!)
Then you can speak of 'No limit photosharing' when the other half of the internet population, that uses only IE can enjoy Zooomr in it's full glory...

Thomas,

you cant create smartsets on IE. Add that to the list of bugs and since 70% of the world uses IE, it cant really be said to be fixed.
wrote Posted on July 27, 2007 (permalink)
@zhu: Thanks for the video. At time 0:59 it shows your list of cover photos empty where I get the last 16 photos I've uploaded (this is before entering a tag to narrow the list of photos).

What OS and browser are you using? I'm using WinXP SP2 and FireFox 2.0.0.5.
wrote Posted on July 28, 2007 (permalink)
@Fogview: Same. Using Win XP SP2 and FireFox 2.0.0.5, I also tried with Opera 9.2.2, didn't work for me.

Here are a few feature requests that I've prepared over the past few weeks and I think that most will (in some way or another) increase interest in the pre-launch Marketplace.

1. Image Mass Edit Mode - As we approach the launch of the Marketplace, I know some who have not yet priced their photos because they're dreading the time-consuming task of selecting a photo, picking a price, applying the price, then selecting the next photo and so on. It would be nice to have a mass-edit mode in this case to simplify the application of prices, locations, and labels in mass.

In this case, I'm imagining a page which lists fifty thumbnails at a time, each with a checkbox next to it. To the right are your Geo, Labels, and Marketplace boxes. From this page, a user will be able to set a common location, common labels, and a common price for each selected photo. The user can then move on to the next set of fifty and do the same.

2. Zooomr-powered Watermark on Upload - I know that the purpose of a photo sharing site is to share photos, but as someone who has had more than one photo stolen without any possible claim to ownership, I remain paranoid about publicly releasing my photos without a "Photo by James Huff" watermark. However, while this watermark will hinder thieves from claiming my small to large-sized photos, it will also hinder the sales of the original photos on the Marketplace.

In this case, I'd like to request a function in the Zooomr upload system which applies a non-obtrusive (perhaps 75% transparent) "Photo by (Full Name)" watermark to the bottom-right corner of all but the square, thumbnail and original versions of the uploaded image. Assuming that the original remains unavailable to other users when the photo is in the Marketplace, this will allow the user to protect his/her ownership of the photo with a watermark while selling the original on the Marketplace without a watermark. Of course, this should be an optional checkbox on the upload form as some may not want to use a watermark.

3. Replace Image Function - As we approach the launch of the Marketplace, I know some (including myself) who would like to replace some of our uploaded images with higher quality versions or add the new Zooomr Watermark (wink wink) to a non-watermarked version, but don't want to part with the existing comments, labels, and view counts attached to these images.

A "Replace" function, perhaps listed before "Delete" above the image or part of the Delete dialogue itself ("Would like to replace the image or delete the entire entry?"), would allow the user to replace the image with a higher quality version without destroying or altering the original image's URL, comments, labels, geo tag, price, and view count. As mentioned earlier, such a feature would also allow us to spare Kris the stress of regenerating photos which are not displaying their original versions.

4. Identify Primary and Secondary Colors in old Photos - It would be nice to have a way to identify the primary and secondary colors in old photos, just like what is done for newly uploaded photos.

5. Selling Your Photos, the basics - While not entirely a "feature" request, it would be nice to have a blog post detailing the basics of selling royalty-free stock imagery and covering such FAQs like the average price per size of royalty-free stock imagery.

Please let me know if you would like any more information regarding any of these feature requests.

I posted them in this post a while ago:

and have also sent an email to Thomas about it.

Zhu: Don't filter by label *ONLY* when selecting a Cover Image, in that particular dialog it doesn't work.

If you don't enter a label in the list, you should see everything.

Paging is slow and quite a bit annoying, but be patient and it'll work.

I've never been able to filter by label when GeoTagging.

So far as I knew, recompressing magic ALWAYS took place.

I might be wrong though. View a photo of yours, click 'All Sizes', click the Original size, save it and compare.

Filter by label works.

I knew why it didn't work now.

I was using Ad Muncher, and it also filtered out that part of Zooomr. Hence it didn't showed anything. I closed the program and it now works. =D

Thanks you guys for all your help!
