Topic: Viewable sizes - limited to visitors

wrote Posted 8 months ago
I have posted some of my photos on my blog using the medium size.

Problem: when my daughter clicks on the image and goes to Zooomr, clicks on the 'All sizes' icon, she does not get the option to view the large and original size.

What we tried:
1. She opened a Zooomr account
2. I made her a contact (family).
3. I changed 'All Rights Reserved' to ' Some Rights Reserved'

Is it possible for her to see all sizes? I thought that was one of the benefits of Zooomr vs Flickr. Maybe I'm just missing something, or misunderstood in the first place about that.

Short answer no one but you can view your high resolution images within Zooomr.
Zooomr used to allow anyone to see all sizes of all images, but when they upgraded to Mk3, the version we are presently on, they limited viewing of all sizes to only the owner of the image. This was done to keep people from having access to and stealing the high resolution versions of your images. (Thought you can still link to the higher resolution versions of your images externally.) They were supposed to add a feature to allow you to designate what resolution of each image would be viewable by visitors to your account, but that feature has yet to materialize, along with many others. Zooomr will be upgraded to version Mk4 some time in the next several weeks. They are promising many new features and bug fixes. Hopefully this will be included in the upgrade.

Larger sizes are still not available and it's not possible to allow other viewers to see them (except by giving them the direct link to the large version).

I'm a little disappointed by that, because in my opinion it should be one of the most important features of a photo-hosting site to show the images with enough details / in high quality.
The current maximum size is 500x375, which is ok for thumbnails, but not for showing your photos to others.

Why are they implementing such useless features like geotaggable ziplines or that mobile stuff which will be used by only a small minority, but don't implement very essential features concerning everyone?
(ok, they also improved some things, like account settings or the API for 3rd party tools and I'm grateful for that)

Yes, I'm disappointed in that also. I was really hoping for visitors to view full size.

If we have photos viewable in full size (and license tags, but this we already have) we can add Zooomr as source of copyleft photos to use on Wikimedia Commons. It would help Wikimedia projects and whole humanity, and so on, but also it would be a good advertisement for Zooomr.

Well I'm a lot disappointed with the new release in light of all the hype that Kris made about it for the past several months. Where are the missing Mk2 features? Where are the new photo oriented features? Where is the marketplace we were promised and was hyped almost a year ago?

I would agree that this feature would be an important feature for a photo sharing site. But it is now clear to me that Zooomr is no longer primarily a photo sharing site, but has morphed into a mobile based social networking site that oh-by-the-way you can also upload photos to. This is now glaringly obvious with the release of 2K8 as well as based on the focus Kris has placed on mobile features in his most recent videos. Not to mention that there is almost a complete lack of any meaningful improvements to the photo portion if this site nor have we seen the resurrection of any Mk2 features that disappeared in Mk3.

One thing that has not yet become evident to existing users, but will in my opinion happen as soon as lots of people start accessing the site via mobile phones, is that the quality of photos on this site will quickly deteriorate into a cesspool of crappy low resolution photos taken with cell phones. This hardly fits the the present community that exists here on Zooomr. I have a feeling that this will further alienate existing users when it happens.

Hi, I'dd like to add my 2 cents on this issue:

1 - Make large resolution an option for outside visitors. Or at least, let the users choose if they want to allow that. It is the biggest deal-breaker for me.

2 - Not so important, but I also think that this mobile thing should not be a part of zooomr. Crappy mobile resolutions are not good. However, a separate category could be created for this (mobile.zooomr.com?)

*bump*
Sorry about that, but is there any timeline for resolving this issue?
People do seem interested (in other posts too: http://www.zooomr.com/groups/help/discuss/1648/) in getting bigger sized photos available to visitors.

thanks

I agree, the zoomr would be better for everyone if the suggestion of having larger images move on

Make large resolution an option for outside visitors! It's really important.

Ditto on making large resolution photos an option for visitors. Must have.

Chris has been all but silent regarding any further development of this web site for the past several months. I am therefore to assume that the photo portion of Zooomr is not presently or is no longer a priority. This is unfortunate based on all the hype that was given to the photo sharing features of this site a ~year and a half ago. I have been viewing the http://www.zooomr.com/groups/global/ page which is a mashup of all group activity at least twice a day for more than a year, and since Mk4 was released, the frequency and volume of posts to all groups has dropped off dramatically. Hours go by without any posts. I do realize that some folks use zipline to communicate rather than post in the forums, but it seems clear that participation in the forums at least has waned significantly. It would be interesting to see statistics of user activity and new user addition over time.

Inspired by this discussion — and by the “View Large” links met anywhere here i wrote an AppleScript for Sooomr and Zafari ;-)

Sorry - this is probably not the right place to post this query but I'm not sure where to go... How do I delete friends from my flist?
Thanks

There's a ticket open about this here. Feel free to add to it.

@dhamaka: that would be best created in it's own thread, or a search for a related thread may turn one up. But you can go to that person's zipline and remove them from there.

@Jeff Henderson: take a look at the Timeline. There's been heaps and heaps of documentation going on. Kris has told us this would be happening in the near future since 2k8 rolled out.

This is just to say a big thanks to the developers for making this work.

Now everybody can see the bigger sizes (up to original).

After some months of inactivity, I'm going back to posting my pictures here right now.
