Hi everyone!
Zooomr is cool, Zooomr might work, but not for me. Not that I am not aware of how to use it -- because I am. My problem lies within its concept of uploading pictures, which I think is crucial to this project, this company. The mass upload (Flash) didn't work at my workstation because of its architecture (PPC) and OS (Gnu/Linux). There simply is no Flash-plugin. The mass upload crashed at three different workstations at university because of the Zooomr upload's quality with different OS (Windows XP, Windows NT, Gnu/Linux) with X86 architecture.
It always crashes.
No matter what browser (Firefox, IE7, IE6, Opera, Konqueror, Epiphany,...).
I now ask you to think of an alternative, at least for uploading. A personal mail address would be cool, where I could simply send my pictures and they'd be automatically put into my account.
Or is there an alternative?

You might try the non-flash uploader. Still pictures might not show up because they're too large (there seems to be an time-out problem with big files), and they won't show up if IPTC data contain non-ASCII chars. I don't know whether Zooomr 2008 will take care of this … |

Who wants to upload hundreds of pictures each after each with this slow method? I have better things to do with my time... Its a pitty. Tomorrow I'll (hopefully) get my new camera and won't be able to use it with the project.

jUploadr will make it's return with the upgrade to Z08 / Mark IV, I'm fairly sure of it.
There will be alternatives that we lost with Mark III. Not today, pretty sure not tomorrow, but in due time.
I am absolutely fanatical about what I see coming off of Kris' photo/zipstream.

I've just noticed that the batch flash uploader isn't functioning on my end in firefox.

It's working for me fine, however... i would suggest ftp upload. i know it's old school, but it's reliable and still working. a few stock photo agencies work that way.
would it be a possibility?

FTP uploads are freaking horrible. There is a definite lack of usability, and it's made worse by the fact that so many people use a totally broken piece of FTP software (Internet Explorer...).
Between Active (PORT) and Passive (PASV) modes, not to mention binary and ascii uploading types (a moot point in zooomr's case, but still relevant), FTP is a terrible transfer medium. Always has been.
That being said, once you get it working, it's pretty free of issues.
But the required system load to suffice Zooomr users is pretty significant, so I personally don't feel it's a worthwhile idea.
